Environment
How do we contribute to environmental impact?
At Vitro we make the most of this advantage by recycling glass from our own process as well as from third parties.
- Energy Management System
- Plants supplied with renewable energy
- Recycled material packaging
- Energy efficiency

AviProtek® E Low-e Bird Friendly Glass
A sustainable and safe solution for birds..
Walker Glass and Vitro partnership provides a bird-safe glazing solution while saving energy. AviProtek® E bird-safe low-e glass helps architects and building owners achieve their environmental goals, earn LEED® credits and meet solar performance targets. AviProtek® E glass has received numerous accolades, including Architectural Record’s “Best of 2015” selection and USGlass magazine’s 2019 Green Award.
AviProtek® E is the only bird-safe glass product available with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This allows architects to earn an additional LEED point for their projects using Pilot Credit 55 related to bird deterrence. It also meets the requirement of California building legislation (AB262) to be enacted in 2020. AviProtek® E also has a Healthy Product Declaration (HPD), which contributes to LEED points in the Materials and Resources (MR) category.
Two of our plants in Mexico are 90% supplied by renewable energy.
Energy efficiency
Through our Energy Management System, we implemented programs to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and carried out projects aimed at reducing energy consumption.
During the year 2023, we maintained a collaboration with the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy, which recognized Vitro for our commitment through the Voluntary Agreement for Energy Efficiency (AVEE).
We managed to reduce our energy consumption by almost 6% compared to the 2018 baseline, reaching an energy intensity of 7.67 GJ/ ton of product.
In addition, we met renewable energy targets in the regions where we operate, as 17% of the electrical energy consumed this year came from renewable sources, representing 3% of the global total energy used.

Packaging and wrapping materials
We have implemented several actions and strategies to encourage reuse and reduce the use of packaging materials.
Agreements have been established with specific customers that facilitate the reuse of packaging material whenever possible. In cases where the material cannot be reused, we prioritize the use of paper or corrugated cardboard for approximately 3 out of every 10 products, and ensure that at least 1 out of every 5 of these packages is made from 100% recycled material.
"El Manzano" Park
Located in the municipality of Santiago, Nuevo León, 60 kilometers from Monterrey, it has an area of 585 hectares.
“El Manzano” Park represents the company’s firm commitment to the conservation of the natural environment. With an area of 585 hectares of protected forest, integrated into the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park, this space is home to a wide diversity of plant and animal species. It also provides recreational and leisure areas for employees, families, and the community in general.
In this environment, environmental awareness is promoted through informative material and constant monitoring is carried out to protect the local flora and fauna.

Wildlife Organization
Dedicated to the conservation of wild species in the world since 1996.
In 1996, Vitro played a crucial role in the founding and promotion of Organización Vida Silvestre, A.C. (OVIS), a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of wildlife species worldwide.
This collaboration has led to important conservation initiatives in diverse ecosystems in Mexico, resulting in the protection of priority species and the enrichment of the country’s biodiversity.
Currently, OVIS administers and manages four Private Reserves, covering a total of 38,268 hectares permanently protected and 100,194 hectares protected through 20-year Conservation Easement contracts.
In total, 138,462 hectares are conserved with a significant and diverse population of wildlife and fishery resources, which not only preserves the rich biodiversity of the areas, but also provides economic benefits to local inhabitants and society in general.
